Love and Compassion for Successful Leaders - Why Not You You. Value #5 - Leader Commitment

During this time of uncertainty, fear, and anxiety, what do you think the colleagues you lead expect from you as their leader?    One of the most important is a strong “commitment”  by you to stay true to their respective values, no matter what the circumstances.  Realistically, this is sometimes hard to do for any leader when it looks like the world we live in, both from a business perspective as well as personal, is falling apart in front of our eyes.

You will be reading many articles today on how leaders respond during this current crisis.   All of those values in these articles are appropriate, but there is one that I believe is the most important for a committed, leader today - that is to provide honest, transparent,  HOPE.   You do this by providing clarity and full understanding of vision, mission, and values combined with financial results and projections.

This does not mean that you provide hope through the use of power because of your position, which seems to be a mistake made by many leaders.    Martin Luther King said that “power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic.”   Those you lead will pick this up immediately and may become even more discouraged and hopeless if you invoke your position’s “power”  into your message of HOPE.

So.....It is easy to be committed to your values during the “easy and prosperous times” The mark of a truly committed leader is to provide HOPE always, especially now more than ever.    Please, provide this  hope in a genuine loving and compassionate way.

To all who read this:   Please stay safe and healthy both for you and your families!

Blessings,

David
